WHAT ARE SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVOCATES?
Special education advocates are people who work with you and the school district in order to obtain an appropriate and individualized education for your child. Special education advocates represent you and your child. They use their knowledge and expertise of special education law and processes, learning disabilities, and assessment procedures to inform and assist you in obtaining appropriate evaluations and individualized services for your child.
As a parent, you want to secure the best possible educational program and educational services for your child. You want to be assured that the school district is operating within the boundaries of federal and state special education law. Special education advocates use their knowledge and experience to help you secure a free, appropriate, and individualized education for your child.
Special education advocates have experience with the special education system. Many of them have worked in public schools and some of them are parents who have been through the process with their own children. These seasoned education advocates know how difficult it can be to learn the system, ask the right questions, and access the proper services that exceptional children need. Special education advocates know what it is going to take for you to provide your child with individualized educational supports and services.
